Greek Navy
Modified Pisa Class Armoured Cruiser HS Georgios Averof pictured at Port Said,February 23rd 1943.Built by Cantiere navale fratelli Orlando Shipyards at Livorno she was initially ordered by the Italian Regia Marina, but budgetary constraints led Italy to offer it for sale to international customers. With the bequest of the wealthy benefactor George Averoff as down payment, Greece acquired her in 1909. Launched in 1910, Averof arrived in Greece in September 1911. The most modern warship in the Aegean at the time.

And the old girl exists to this day, as a Museum ship!
In WW2, for a time, she sported a "snazzy" camo job!! DFO

Re: Greek Navy.
She was part of the reason the Turks went on a $pending spree for dreadnoughts they could not afford! At the time Greece obtained her she was far more potent than anything the Turkish Navy had.
Here are some fairly recent photos of her.... Enjoy....... DFO

Indeed, she does LOOK shipshape; most likely far better than our OLYMPIA and TEXAS. DFO

Re: Greek Navy
Well lets put it another way , they can afford its upkeep .......apparently
Having said that Dennis , how many ships of distinction [ subjectively ] can any nation afford to maintain ,,,,,,I was horrified to learn that our HMS Victory is now without her upper rigging /rope-works

Very good question: "Having said that Dennis , how many ships of distinction [ subjectively ] can any nation afford to maintain" Even here I am a$tounded by the number that are being-so far-preserved.
Other than all 4 IOWAs the largest is the MIDWAY at San Diego. Plus the planes on her, too!!! AFAIK all the large x-USN ships are static, but it looks like the AVEROFF has some ability to move under her power; see 3rd pic above. Good to see she has been maintained so nicely; several of the old USN ships look quite uhh....iffy...... DFO
