Two views of MARAT at the Spithead Coronation Review in 1937......... ;) Not the one view normally associated with her while there; which-IIRC-I have in my 1956 THE WORLDS' WARSHIPS, sort of a poor mans JFS!. DFO

Views of POLTAVA under construction 1910-11............ ;) Also, a view of POLTAVA and GANGUT outfitting in 1913.

Of course her history was not a happy one:

"Poltava was laid up in 1918, and caught fire in 1919. Renamed Mikhail Frunze, shortened to Frunze, the ship caught fire again in 1922, and was beached, though a total loss. The hull was refloated, and used as an experimental hulk. In the 1933, plans were drawn up to convert the hulk into a modern battlecruiser. Two variants were proposed, Version A having all the boiler uptakes trunked into one funnel. Frunze was later converted into a barracks ship, and eventually scuttled as a blockship in 1941. The hulk was raised in 1944, but not broken up until 1956."

Two photos of the obsolete OCTOBER REVOLUTION being scrapped in 1956-57. In my very first warship book (WORLDS' WARSHIPS 1956) the 2 survivors of the class of four were still shown and listed! ;) DFO

A shot of POLTAVA as she was starting to be fitted out in St. Petersberg.......in a long vanished "world". Note the sister hull in front of her. :) DFO
