Not forgetting the contributions already included in the 'Navigation Lights and Glare Shields' thread regarding:-

Variations to the location/siting of lights on particular ships (or classes of ship) advised in:-
- the US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR's)

which are in addition to:-
- COLREGS; International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea - 1972 (Rules and Annexes)

BRANCH BADGES

"In case you're a little out of touch with the modern Navy, the Communicators branch badge has evolved into the attached. All that is left of the heritage is that one lightning bolt in the background.

The Buntings flags are now a cuff badge for those killicks who are specialists in that part of ship, (like a navs yeo in past times) after they got rid of the buntings and merged them with seaman specs. They had no Yeomen as time went by and that came and bit them on the arse."

CIS = Communications Information Systems Specialist

Latest alteration to the previous version of the CIS badge seems to be removal of one of the crossed flashes to be replaced with orbiting satellites round a globe (outline) .

Thanks for sharing David but its a tad confusing to the layman in that the badge clearly depicts a missile and torpedo a globe and the lightning bolt , but no reference to the SEA :?:

It is after all a Naval badge is it not , or am I missing something here please
