Russian Navy Admiral Kasatonov frigate to begin final mechanism check

The Admiral Kasatonov frigate of project 22350 will return to Baltiisk base for the final check of mechanisms before the handover to the Navy, a defense industry source told TASS.
"The frigate is completing a sortie for trials. It is to be handed over to the fleet in May," he said.
The final check of mechanisms is a standard procedure before the handover. The source did not rule out that the frigate may sail out another time before the handover. The Navy refused comment.

Severnaya Verf Shipyard has built and is building four frigates of project 22350. The Admiral Gorshkov joined the Northern fleet in July 2018. The Admiral Golovko is ready for floating. The Admiral Isakov is being built.

From a Russian site comes this:

"Sea of change: Admiral Gorshkov frigate awaits modernization
Carriers of Zircon missile systems will receive new weapons systems and equipment

June 1, 2020 00:01

FRIGATES SHIPS RUSSIAN NAVY MODERNIZATION

Modern Russian frigates of project 22350 are being modernized. The first in line is Admiral Gorshkov. It plans to improve electronic equipment: radars, reconnaissance equipment and electronic warfare systems. They will also update the electronic filling - it will ensure the reliable operation of Zircon missile systems. Changes were made following the operation of two ships of this series. Experts note that frigates will become more powerful and reliable.

First in a series
It is planned that similarly all frigates of project 22350 will be finalized, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia. New ships of this type will be built taking into account the experience of operating weapons systems, life support and control on existing combat units.

In large series, the first ships, as a rule, differ from subsequent ones. A similar practice was common in Soviet times, said Admiral Valentin Selivanov, a former chief of the Navy Main Staff.

“The situation is the same in other countries where there are serious shipbuilding programs,” he explained. - Series have been built for years, and during this time experience has been accumulating, new equipment, materials, communication systems and weapons are appearing. The first frigate of the project - “Admiral Gorshkov” - was done for a long time. It was laid in 2006, and design began even earlier. Domestic gunsmiths and shipbuilders during this time managed to take a big step forward. Without making adjustments there was no longer enough. Ships serve 30–40 years, and they must depart this period without major alterations.

It is important that Admiral Gorshkov was actively exploited, military expert Dmitry Boltenkov noted.

“All this time, flaws have been revealed,” he explained. - We checked driving performance, the operation of weapons and life support systems, and also identified weaknesses in ship structures. Based on the data obtained, conclusions will follow.

There is enough material for analysis. In 2019, the frigate sailed around the world. On a long voyage, military sailors stayed 175 days and traveled more than 40 thousand nautical miles (about 74 thousand km). The frigate visited the ports of Sri Lanka, China, Ecuador, Cuba and other countries. The Suez and Panama Canals were crossed, the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic oceans crossed. Such a voyage made it possible to test equipment and weapons systems in different climatic zones, a military expert noted.

In addition, in February of this year, Admiral Gorshkov was the first of the surface ships to fire from the Barents Sea with the latest Zircon hypersonic missiles. It is known that the ammunition flew over 500 km and accurately hit a ground target at one of the ranges of the Northern Urals.

New on board
Earlier, Izvestia wrote that the second frigate of the Admiral Kasatonov project will be equipped with new robotic systems. In particular, he will receive Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles. A drone with a range of up to 120 km will become a scout for the frigate.

The structure of the ship's equipment will include crewless boats that can be used for reconnaissance of offshore facilities and the coast. If necessary, they will provide remote inspection of suspicious boats. It is also known that the last in a series of Project 22350 ships will receive not 16, as before, but 24 vertical launchers for Caliber, Onyx or Zircon strike missiles.

Strength from the sea: the Black Sea will receive the latest frigates
Ships of project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov will become the main deterrent in the region
Now the Navy includes one frigate of project 22350 - Admiral Gorshkov. The second - “Admiral Kasatonov” - is currently undergoing state tests. It is expected that he will be handed over to the fleet before the end of the year. The third and fourth - “Admiral Golovko” and “Admiral Isakov” - should replenish the Navy within two years. Two more ships of this project are laid.

In the future, they can acquire a unique anti-mine complex “Diamand”. It can operate at a distance of up to 10 km from the ship, detecting and eliminating sea mines at a depth of up to 100 m.

Frigates are made using stealth technology. Of the features, it is possible to note the use of composite structural materials, as well as the new architecture of the hull and superstructures. All this in a complex has reduced the visibility of the ship in the radar range.

In addition to shock missiles, the frigates are armed with the Poliment-Redut air defense system, which can attack up to 16 targets simultaneously. It is primarily designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles. Its practical range is 400 km. In addition, there are two Broadsword anti-aircraft missile and artillery systems. Surface and ground targets can also destroy the 130-mm artillery mount A-192M. And the automatic control system (ACS) of the frigate is easily combined into a single combat circuit with others.

The latest ships of this project will be deployed in the Black Sea in the near future. For them, all the necessary infrastructure will be built in Sevastopol. Taking into account the American missile defense base in Romania, where offensive weapons can be deployed, they will become an important deterrent in the region. Such a decision can be regarded as the US response after they withdraw from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate and Shorter Range "

Hype or true??? :o DFO

"Frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" went to Severodvinsk for modernization[/b]
April 2, 2020 at 13:21
The lead frigate of project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov left Severomorsk to the Barents Sea and headed for Severodvinsk. According to the press service of the Northern Fleet, on Thursday, April 2, there it will undergo scheduled maintenance and "partial modernization of systems and mechanisms."

After completion of the technical work, the ship will pass tests in the training ranges of the fleet in the White Sea, the press service added.

During the interbase transition, the frigate’s crew will continue to improve naval training and work out the tasks of air defense and anti-submarine defense, as well as individual measures to combat survivability while on the move at sea.

Recall that the head frigate of project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov has been serving in the Northern Fleet since the summer of 2018 . At the end of February of this year, it became known about the first launches from the ship of the latest Zircon hypersonic missile.

Later, sources in the military-industrial complex claimed that the frigate had to conduct several more launches of Zircon.

The Admiral Gorshkov frigate equipped with the universal ship’s firing complex (UKSK) 3S14 can use the entire Caliber and Onyx missile families."
