A rare photo....The ill fated Lead Ship,Heavy Cruiser HMS York pictured while approaching Washington DC on March 28th 1938.She was wrecked in an attack by Italian explosive Motorboats of the 10th Flotilla MAS at Suda Bay,Crete in March 1941. Her wreck was salvaged in 1952.

York Class Heavy Cruiser HMS Exeter pictured c1939,she was sunk during the Second Battle of the Java Sea,March 1st 1942.

York Class Heavy Cruiser HMS Exeter pictured with her brood of Supermarine Walrus reconnaissance aircraft in 1930... She was sunk during the Second Battle of the Java Sea, March 1st 1942..The Japanese rescued 652 men of the crew of the Exeter, including her captain, who became prisoners of war. Of these men, 152 died in Japanese captivity.
