Ahhh yes, somebody's favorite carrier! Long before the young whipper-snapper served on her!! Backbone of USN carrier strike force in WW2 and into the 50s. Several units served well past that. A superb design that was able to change and "grow" for many years. If only USN was coming up with designs like that now!! :( DFO

A few shots of Korean War vintage ESSEX class units, including someone's favorite the BHR. He must have snagged a extra comfy rack...close to a coffee pot! :lol: DFO

Long Beach Naval Yard......full of ESSEX class cvs, mid 1966!! Where CV12 is docked, is where I saw the NEW JERSEY in Fall of 1968...:)

Essex Class Carrier USS Philippine Sea pictured as she passes under the Oakland Bay Bridge as she arrives at San Francisco,upon her return from the Korean War zone, cJune 9th 1951. CVG 2 is in recognition of her air group by the crew....*Note she is flying her homeward bound pennant suspended by helium balloons.
