The exquisite figurehead of Absalon pictured on the five masted Barque, Danish Training Ship København on her visit to Sydney in November 1923..She was the world's largest sailing ship at the time. Built at Ramage & Ferguson Shipyard at Leith in Scotland (hull number 256), and was commissioned by the Danish East Asiatic Company as a Sail Training Ship. Their original commission of January 1914 was well underway at the onset of the First World War when the British Admiralty commandeered the first commission as an Oil Fuel Tender. The East Asiatic Company had to then recommission their Training Ship and this second commission began in 1918 and was completed in 1921. The second commission included the installation a four-cylinder diesel engine by Burmeister & Wain capable of propelling the ship at 6 knots. The propellers were fitted with reversible blades (controlled from within) to ease the reversing of the ship. She was classified by Lloyd's of London as Class 100 A1, the highest classification of the age. The København was last heard from on December 21st 1928, while en route from Buenos Aires to Australia. When it became clear the ship was missing, a lengthy search ensued, but neither København nor anyone who had been aboard her on her final voyage was ever found. Despite both the extensive search and much speculation about the vessel's fate, København remains missing and what happened to her crew and cadets remains a mystery.

Danish Minelayer, HDMS Henrik Gerner, built at Orlogsværftet Shipyard, Holmen, Copenhagen and completed in 1928. She was used as a Submarine Depot Ship in the 1920's, here pictured at Holmen Naval Base with C Class Submarines HDMS Rota (C-1), HDMS Bellona (C-2) and HDMS Flora (C3). She was scuttled by her crew on August 29th 1943 at Holmen to avoid capture by the Germans. Nevertheless she was salvaged and entered German service in 1943, she was renamed Prenzlau and later transferred to the East German Navy as an auxiliary.

Navy Lookout
Not the best time for forsvaretd
During a mandatory test on board HDMS Niels Juel (alongside in Naval Station Korsør) a Harpoon missile booster activated and cannot currently be deactivated.
There is a risk the missile may launch and air and sea space around the area has been closed.
Danes have form for this - in 1982 an older variant of Harpoon was accidentally launched from the frigate HDMS Peder Skram. It flew 21km, destroyed 4 cottages and damaged 130 other buildings fortunately with no loss of life
Missile failure closes shipping traffic in the Great Belt
A technical problem has arisen on a missile on board the frigate Niels Juel, which is in the harbor in Korsør.

Sometime back in the 80s a T42 was doing Sea Dart loading drills alongside in Portsmouth. Instead of loading a drill missile, they put warshot on the rail and hit Fire.
It failed to launch, which was a bit of luck for the Portsdown radar reflector.
HMS Pelican 1938 - 1958 GGCV L86 U86 F86 What I Have I Hold ~ A wonderful bird is the Pelican its beak can hold more than its belly can.
