Battleships: Bismarck
Despite numerous claims of being only warmed over WW1 BAYERNs, this was not the case. Obviously the Kreigsmarine studied them, but this was a new-1930s-design. It did have some weaknesses, but a protected hull was not among them as her final battle demonstrated. Of course, that did not mean a pair of opposing battleships could not shoot her upper works to pieces! DFO

And a very capable ship she was to eh Dennis , and could have done even more damage to us as a nation during her brief lifespan

Re: Battleships: Bismarck
Fortunately Raeder and Company refused to realize/admit that the day of the BIG warship surface raider was about done, and without air cover....would probably be badly burnt toast. While the RN was badly stretched, they still had just enough to deal with 1 or 2 BIG raiders. DFO

Thanks very much Dennis , great shots ......
In the first photo any idea what the large holes in the panels are ,,,perhaps... counter sunk rivets but I thought all turrets were welded not bolted

To service guns or repair damage, the turrets must be dismantled. Suspect those were some kinda of protected fasteners for assembly or tear down....?? DFO
