David Ellis and retired Royal Navy officer Brian Gerrish ask whether, despite the government trying to reassure the public with increased defence spending, the reality is that the UK is rapidly losing sovereign national defence to a web of political and corporatist interests.

NAVYfit

On 1 April 2022, a spectacular display of strength, fitness, courage and agility was delivered at the Passing-Out Parade for the Royal Navy Physical Training Instructors (PTIs), hosted at HMS Temeraire. A dazzling afternoon of acrobatics, club swinging, vaulting, rope climbing and much much more, as family, friends and Royal Navy VIPs gathered at the home of NAVYfit in Portsmouth.
This year it wasn't just the elite fitness that had the audience in awe, for the first time in history the Qualifying Course for Royal Navy Leading Physical Trainers transformed, offering the opportunity to become a PTI to both Service people and civilians following completion of Royal Navy training at HMS Raleigh. In history, the course traditionally recruits Royal Navy people who will branch transfer to the PT Specialisation. Marking 2022 as a historic moment for the Royal Navy PT Specialisation.
The thrilling displays showcased the physical excellence of Royal Navy PTIs and the outstanding development of LPTQC 67 during the 26-week course, whilst celebrating the traditional ways sailors used to keep fit throughout history.
The parade commenced with a presentation of awards, certificates, PT branch badges and prizes hosted by special guest Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral Martin Connell.
The 17 PTIs will be assigned to different bases across the UK. Those to pass out were:

Exactly the kind of urgent investments the UK needs to make.

Note: the NSM to be installed in ANZAC Class frigates & Hobart Class destroyers from 2024, rather undermining RN claim that it would not be possible to have I-SSGW until 2027.

See - Australia invests in firepower.
Australian Navy buying Naval Strike Missile (NSM) anti-ship missile and stock of mines.
Also Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER) for the RAAF.

Dry docks at Devonport 10/10/20

(Top - 8 Dock) HMS Bulwark beginning second phase of upkeep work prior to returning to the fleet in 2023 (assuming LPDs survive defence review)

(Middle - 9 Dock) HMS Vanguard - Reactor Access House (RAH - dark grey building) now moved off the boat - hopefully a sign of progress in troubled refuel/refit process

(Bottom -10 Dock) ex-HMS Courageous (fully covered) in routine Survey & Docking Period to ensure integrity of hull while in long-term storage afloat.
Royal Navy: £250,000 of diesel reportedly stolen at HMNB Devonport

Theft is understood to have involved fuel being used for generators being used to power HMS Bulwark

U.S. Naval Institute

It's National Winston Churchill Day to commemorate when the British Prime Minister became an honorary U.S. citizen in 1963. The USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81) flies the Royal Navy White Ensign on special occasions and has a Royal Navy officer assigned permanently to the ship's company.
