Re: Light Cruisers: Sverdlov Class
In the background is a rare photo of the illusive ADM. NAKIMOV, modified as a missile test ship. One might wonder how that pic got past the soviet censors ?

A far better "known" sov CLG was the DZERZHINSKI, with its not very successful land based SAM addition. I wonder how this conversion affected her cg?? Looks like a rather large amount of added weight up rather high.
Apparently she could only carry 10 of the liquid fueled (?) SA-N-2 SAMS. Not a useful bird for use at sea. DFO

Here is ZHDANOV, I'm currently finishing a 50 year old hull to become this "command cruiser". The balsa back then was certainly a joy to work with compared to the junk balsa now available to hobbyists. Her conversion to a "command cruiser" was completed in Nov., 1971. DFO

I'm currently building the twin 3.9" AA mounts for my model of ZHDANOV, after the bare, unshaped hull sat since @ 1970-71........

A few more pics of these handsome, imposing cruisers........ Imagine the impression these would make in "third world" port visits during the late 50s, 60s and 70s! DFO
