Norwegian Navy

Unread post by designeraccd »

As of now, 25% of Norway's Aegis force: collided with a tanker after recent Trident exercise, in a fjord.... At least there was some quick thinking to ground her; given the SIZE of that gash.

Given the damage sustained by USN Aegis "cruiser" PORT ROYAL by a "soft" grounding..........will this almost new ffg be worth repair?? :( DFO

What would get the best odds - a repair job or scrapped?

Badly Damaged Norwegian Frigate Intentionally Ran Aground After Tanker Collision (Updated)
Reports state that the ship was sinking and grounding it was the only chance the skipper had at saving it.

Yep; twitter has a short video (loop) showing three (or four tugs) giving her a 'massive re-adjustment' in an attempt to ensure she is a bit more secure on the rocks..... (but not sure if it's a spoof or not  ) - have a look under the header 'A must watch - Advanced Rescue op' and judge for yourself)

Norwegian Navy images of frigate KNM #HelgeIngstad late this afternoon. Resting precariously on rocks and could slide off.

Open to the sea down much of her starboard side, a complex salvage operation will be required - she has sensitive equipment and munitions on board.

Source of the excerpt above is NavyLookout on Twitter - Save the Royal Navy.org - where two further images can be viewed.

Thanks Harry , obviously I dont know the area but as you rightly point out it will be a difficult salvage operation and dam cold water , and a lot of ingenious patching and pumping merely to stabilise her let alone get her back to port .......what about one of the recovery vessels which might be able to piggy back her back , but not knowing the area [ which I assume is a fiord] not certain if they could get beneath her to be able to beach her on their deck

Will follow this with great interest :)
