Re: RN Cruisers: Town Class
Some pics of Liverpool from 1940 in the Eastern Med, she was hit in the focsle which set fire to her petrol storage, Walrus fuel, which ultimately resulted in her entire fore part falling away. She made it back to Alexandria where TTL (then in Valiant) went onboard and was surprised at how little she was damaged other than the missing pointed end, he compared this with the massive extend of damage suffered by Belfast when she was mined. Liverpool made it back to be repaired and fight another day.

Manchester was lost on the Pedestal Convoy to save Malta, it was a dark and moonless night off the North African coast when they were attacked by Italian MAS boats, small MTBs. She was hit in the engine rooms and deprived of all power. Her captain was obliged to scuttle her and take her company ashore where they were interned, a few hundred were taken off by other destroyers who nosed up alongside in the darkness.
here is an account of Pedestal and the loss of Manchester

I believe she is now a popular dive site?

nice to see some of these fine looking ships pre-war at the last gasp of a different era, white painted hull/superstructure and buff funnels; how absolutely fine they must have looked. Showing the flag really had a meaning then, not just an empty expression by vacuous news readers these days.

Re: RN Cruisers: Town Class
nice one of a different Edinburgh, I went onboard to meet her Captain and presented him with a copy of "Last Call for HMS Edinburgh" Frank Pearce's superb book about her loss which I highly recommend to all of our members.
plus a few more of Edinburgh and Belfast but I have posted a lot more of Belfast on her thread.
