The passenger liner Montclare was requisitioned by the Admiralty in August 1939 to serve as an Armed Merchant Cruiser. She was sold to the Admiralty in 1942 and HMS Montclare was converted into a Destroyer Depot Ship. She served with the British Pacific Fleet and, postwar, was converted into a Submarine Depot ship and spent much of her time at Gareloch. She was scrapped in 1958.
