RN Submarines: H Class 1915

Unread post by jbryce1437 »

A Class of 42 boats, all served during the First World War, during which 9 were lost. Some saw service in the Second World War.
In their proposed numbering sequence H1 to H54, H35 to H40 was not used and H45, 46, 53 and 54 were cancelled. Of those completed post-war, 14 and 15 were transferred to Canada and 16 to 20 were transferred to Chile.

HMS/m H.49 seen here as the boat enters to Gloucester Canal from the river Severn, on her way to the Gloucester Docks accompanied by H.33, for a visit in March 1937.

Thanks Sadsac, your photo wasn't attached, but I think this is the photo that you refer to:

Hello Jim. Found site again - do not find it easy to `get in' ?? To comment - your photo / Pic of H39 - please be aware that the picture shown is of H49 ? And frm whence did you get pics of H49 passing thro lock to Gloucester Canal. Good to be `back with you' - trust all is `OK' with you.

Hello Dennis and please you have found us again. I believe the photo was a postcard but not sure of its origin.
