Finally long after her bump into the "Ark", the "Showboat" as she is now. That's assuming she wasn't damaged by the recent hurricane , hopefully! All gussied up with a wartime camo scheme like the BELFAST sports in the Thames DFO

And doesn't she look proud of her new dress Dennis , full marks , just wish we were nearer to witness her massive size and prowess

That photo of the ship reserve facility at Bayonne that Dennis posted is from April of 1953. Both Alaskas and North Carolinas are there, along with a couple of Atlanta class light cruisers, some Cleveland class, a seaplane tender, one of the big two-stack transports and an Essex-class carrier, probably Franklin. Above her is the legendary Enterprise.

Thanks for the heads up Don , to us over this side of the pond , they are not so readily obvious , that and the fact that the USN had hundreds more vessels both before, during , and after the second world war , sorry for stating the obvious, and names help a lot to the less knowledgable amongst us, of which I include myself , so you can never give us to much information on the topic in hand , and we are very grateful .........those who do know better.. and might feel a-fronted... can speak up for themselves obviously

NORTH CAROLINA arrives Pearl Harbor and the torpedo hit by I-19. The hole was @ 32' x 15'!! Owch!!!!!!!!!

She and SARATOGA did seem like torpedo magnets early in the Pacific War....... DFO
