The first 2 Italian heavy cruisers were the "tin clad" TRENTO and TRIESTE. Flush decked unlike the other Italian CAs. Their credited speed was far higher than the 32 knot max. they could sustain, at best. One of the GARABALDIs is visible behind the cano'd TRENTO in 1942.

The 7th and last CA, the BOLZANO, was designed to then complete a 3 CA unit with the 2 earliest heavies. DFO

Some survived considerable battle damage while many others did not, or only as battered hulks.......DFO

Thanks for sharing those Dennis , Iv'e never seem those before , as you say they got battered well and truly . ;)

Of the few survivors of Italy's numerous WW2 cruiser force, the MONTECULLI became a training cruiser. B turret was removed. DFO

Condottieri Class Light Cruiser RM Muzio Attendolo pictured on launch day at Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico Shipyards at Trieste on September 9th 1934 and fitted out in 1935..Note alongside her is the Audace Class Destroyer RM Ardimentoso....RM Muzio Attendolo was sunk in Naples by USAAF bombers on December 4th 1942. Although salvaged after the war, she was damaged beyond repair and was scrapped.
