"Today was another day of learning " thank you Jim , whilst not being a follower of British Submarines , [out go ignorance .....not choice ] I had always thought of our knowledge as a 2nd runner to our friends across the channel who seemed to run rings around us in most things to do with submarines ....but I say that from a basis of ignorance not knowledge .....and I am always willing to learn .

C2 and C5 alongside HMS Ganges c1912
Please note that C38 shown above, earlier in the thread is also alongside Admiralty pier.
The boats are cutters, used to teach the Boys pulling/rowing and sailing.
Earlier ones were lugsail rigged.

C Class Submarine HMS C-32 pictured being loaded onto a floating drydock at Petrograd in 1916.......On the August 3rd 1916, the submarines C26, C27, C32 and C35 were deployed to the Baltic theatre of operations. Their tortuous journey started whilst under tow from Chatham Docks and then onto Archangel (North Western Russia) where they arrived on the August 22nd 1916. From here they were loaded onto barges and transported via rivers and canals to Petrograd, which they reached on September 9th 1916. From here they went onto Kronstadt. These four operated in the Baltic Sea, based at Tallinn as part of the blockade of Germany trying to prevent the import of iron ore from Sweden.Three of these boats were scuttled (along with the British E-class Submarines E1, E8, E9, E19) outside Helsinki in 1918 to prevent capture by German troops of the Baltic Sea Division who had landed nearby.
