Tjerk Hiddes and sister Van Galen were initially classed as destroyers, Jagers, in Dutch service. Post ww2 there was a differentiation between torpedo destroyers, Torpedobootjager, and anti submarine destroyers, onderzeebootjagers. This pair and the three S class then became Torpedobootjagers.

T H and V G each went through 6 pendant numbers in Dutch service plus a 7th when transferred to Indonesia.

Tjerk Hiddes wore these pendants, 1 - 4 located on hull below bridge, 5 - 7 located on hull forward.
1 - G16, as built to 1944
2 - D08, British Pacific Fleet as allocated by the USA 1944
3 - G16, on return to UK from Pacific late 1944
4 - J5, 1946 and whilst in Dutch East Indies, J - Jager
5 - JT5, 1948 on return to Holland from East Indies, JT - Torpedobootjager
6 - D806, 1950 with new NATO pendant allocations
7 - 01, 1951 on transfer to Indonesia as Gadjah Mada
