Both units of this class survived WW2, but apparently the GARABALDI was in better condition, as she was chosen for conversion into a CG using USN missiles, radars and launchers. She carried a twin armed launcher aft with 2 radars to guide the Terriers. Forward she had 2 twin 5.3" with 4 single 3" turrets down each beam.
She emerged as a typically handsome Italian warship that, by the standards of the time, was a very heavily armed, modern CG.
I built my little (1:1536) model of her in 1964. The lattice masts were difficult then; impossible for me now!! DFO

Still strikes me as a very handsome and powerful conversion for the time They do have a eye for grace!
