Re: Swedish cruisers

Well Don , theres a question :?:

It would seam on the face of it,...... a tad embarrassing , but things are not always what they seem are they

I often , like you I'm sure , stumble over something that does not seem logical , but then its a case of what needs to be known , and by whom , don't you think , or am I being a tad naive again ;)

Personally I'm happier with bait on the deck , as long as its our bait..... that is ... ;)

In addition to cruisers the Swedish Fleet had invested in Coast Defense Ships, in essence pre-dreadnoughts. Their last class consisted of 3 ships. Here is one unit as built and updated for WW2. Also sister D. VICTORIA in WW2 era + scrapping. Her 11.1" were cut off early in the scrapping process. DFO

Thanks Brian, but don't let Dennis see this or he will be petitioning the USN to place an order and replace his "Coke Can" class of LCS ;)

HSwMS Gustav V pictured at Stockholm in 1938..She was a Sverige Class Coastal Defence Ship of the Swedish Navy. The vessel was the third and last ship in the Sverige Class along with HSwMS Sverige and HSwMS Drottning Victoria. Gustav V was launched on September 15th, 1917 at Kockums Shipyards at Malmö and delivered to the Navy on January 9th, 1922. The design consisted of four 28 cm cannons and a secondary armament of eight 15.2 cm cannons. During the interwar period, the ship underwent several modernizations and was one of the most powerful vessels in the Swedish fleet during the Second World War. The ship was put in reserve in 1948, was decommissioned in 1957 and was later sold for scrapping at Karlskrona in 1970.
