Quite a few destroyers back then, too. Now just a handful of VISBY class "corvettes" plus some hi-tech subs.
Oh, that's a 57mm popgun under the "stealth" cover...............DFO

Here's a ship photo you don't see often -- literally. Swedish Gota Lejon in wartime.

Over the years the Swedish Navy had quite a few destroyers, of different classes. One, the SMALLAND, has been saved as a Museum Ship. In her time she was the equal of any contemporary destroyer in the world. DFO

Definitely not a modified V1 !!! Sweden had, and still has, quite a proficient weapons building infrastructure. Planes, tanks, ships; they did cover the gamut of weapons needed, including hi-tech D/E boats (subs). DFO

Then there is the "RENTED" Swedish sub...GOTLAND. She was used to test USN asw versus our latest and greatest....uhh..............

"How was the Gotland able to evade the Reagan’s elaborate antisubmarine defenses involving multiple ships and aircraft employing a multitude of sensors? And even more importantly, how was a relatively cheap submarine costing around $100 million—roughly the cost of a single F-35 stealth fighter today—able to accomplish that?

In 2005, USS Ronald Reagan , a newly constructed $6.2 billion dollar aircraft carrier, sank after being hit by multiple torpedoes.

Yet despite making multiple attacks runs on the Reagan, the Gotland was never detected.

This outcome was replicated time and time again over two years of war games, with opposing destroyers and nuclear attack submarines succumbing to the stealthy Swedish sub. Naval analyst Norman Polmar said the Gotland “ran rings” around the American carrier task force. Another source claimed U.S. antisubmarine specialists were “demoralized” by the experience." from POP MECHANICS.

Perhaps our anchored in Hawaii former swabby can elucidate further??? ;) DFO
