Strange isn't it Jim , I can't help thinking of dear Sandy and his work of art Model he made of Rodney every time I see her .the detail he bestowed on her and the care he paid to every item ......perfection ....a ship he loved so much .

Re: RN Battleships:Nelson Class.
this is a snap from the first few days of Pedestal after passing Gibralter so must be around 08-10th August 1942. Nelson even used her 16" main battery as AA fire at one point.

Ungainly looking after being CUT way down from the N3 design! Despite their low speed-supposedly 23 knots, but by WW2 they were slower, but they served well with the BIG 9-16" guns...ask BISMARCK! DFO

Re: RN Battleships: Nelson Class
HMS Rodney pictured in 1930.
She was one of two Nelson Class Battleships...built at Cammell Laird's Shipyards at Birkenhead on Merseyside in 1925. The Nelsons were unique in British Battleship construction, being the only ships to carry a main armament of 16-inch guns, and the only ones to carry all the main armament forward of the superstructure. As her superstructure was located aft of midships like RN fleet oilers whose names carried the ...'ol' suffix, she was sometimes derisively referred to as "Rodnol". Commissioned in 1927, Rodney served extensively in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean during the Second World War.
Rodney played a major role in the sinking of the German Battleship Bismarck in May 1941. During and after Operation Torch and the Normandy landings, Rodney participated in several coastal bombardments. In poor condition from extremely heavy use and lack of refits, she was scrapped in 1948.
