The aft section of second Type 26 Frigate HMS Cardiff was rolled out of the build hall earlier today.

The forward ‘superblock’ will be joined to the aft ‘superblock’ soon. The mast will also soon be added to the vessel.
Here’s some footage.

Tom Sharpe

HMS Glasgow coming together nicely.
Is that middle shape a ball? If it is, someone should let them know.
And please tell me those stanchions under the bridge wings will be covered. Seaman Specialists and anyone interested in radar cross-section demand it!

Refining the requirements for the Type 26 frigate mission bay

In a previous article, we took a speculative look at how the Type 26 frigate mission bay could be utilised. More than four years on, the RN has provided some further detail on the specifications for this space on its future surface combatant.

With all Type 26 frigates on order and the construction of the first 3 vessels well underway, some development work has been done on the requirements and capability of the mission bay, sometimes termed the Flexible Mission Space (FMS) that occupies, the central part of the superstructure. Although a FMS appears to be a simple idea, there are a surprising number of additional elements needed to make it a safe, efficient and operationally useful space.

Katherine Jenkins was today revealed as the official sponsor of the Royal Navy’s next-generation submarine hunter HMS Cardiff.

The Welsh mezzo-soprano – the biggest selling classical artist this century – has agreed to become an ambassador for the frigate and all who serve aboard.

The Navy invited Katherine to take up this honour – a life-long commitment – due to her work with the Armed Forces around the globe over the past two decades, including twice performing on the UK’s flagship, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
