The Commander of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, Vice Admiral Charles B. Cooper II has stated that Houthi Terrorist Group in Yemen launched a Naval-Surface “Suicide” Drone into a Commercial Shipping Lane in the Red Sea today, in the First Attack of its kind by the Houthis who usually use Aerial Drones and Missiles; the Drone reportedly Exploded off the Coast of Yemen not causing an Damage or Casualties in what is believed to be 25 Attempted Attack on Shipping Vessels in the Region since October 7th.

VADM Cooper further stated that despite the “Final Warning” issued yesterday by the United States and Coalition in the Red Sea it does not appear that the Houthis wish to Cooperate.

U.S. Central Command
On the Jan. 6, at approximately 9:30 a.m. (Sanaa time), an unmanned aerial vehicle launched from Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen was shot down in self-defense by USS LABOON (DDG 59) in international waters of the Southern Red Sea in the vicinity of multiple commercial vessels. There were no casualties or damage reported.

Red Sea attacks: Greek vessel hit by missile

A Malta-flagged, Greek-owned vessel has been hit with a missile in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen, maritime security firm Ambrey has said.

It is thought to be the third incident involving Zografia, a bulk carrier, in 24 hours.

Tuesday's incident comes as the US military announced it had seized Iranian-supplied weapons bound for the Houthis during an operation last week.

Meanwhile, the US has hit more targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

An official told CBS, the BBC's American partner, that the US conducted further strikes on Houthi positions overnight.

Four anti-ship ballistic missiles that were ready to be launched were destroyed, the official said.

USS Gerald R. Ford leaders look back on maiden (and extended) cruise

In May, the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford pulled away from Naval Station Norfolk for its first full-length, combat deployment.

That maiden cruise was a long time coming. Ford was originally supposed to deploy in 2018, and the carrier was been plagued by high-profile cost overruns, delays and concerns about some of the dozens of new systems onboard.

Nonetheless, the ship left Virginia last spring and headed to the waters of U.S. European Command, ostensibly to steam on station as the Russia-Ukraine war raged nearby.

But six months in, and just weeks before the warship’s scheduled return home, the Pentagon ordered the carrier to head to the eastern Mediterranean following the Palestinian militant group Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

As that war raged, and officials worried about the war spilling into a broader regional conflict, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered multiple extensions to the carrier’s deployment, and the crew spent an extra 76 days at sea helping to ensure that the Israel-Hamas war didn’t boil over.

Besson (LSV-1) from the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary), 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, XVIII Airborne Corps, departed Joint Base Langley-Eustis en route to the Eastern Mediterranean less than 36 hours after President Biden announced the U.S. would provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea. Besson, a logistics support vessel, is carrying the first equipment to establish a temporary pier to deliver vital humanitarian supplies.

The Department of Defense has announced that over 1,000 Soldiers with the U.S. Army’s 7th Expeditionary Transportation Brigade out of Fort Eustis in Norfolk, Virginia will Participate in the Construction of a Temporary Floating-Pier that will be Anchored off the Coast of the Gaza Strip and will be Built utilizing Joint Logistics-Over-the-Shore (JLOTS) Elements from the U.S. Army and Navy, with the Pier expected to take Two Weeks to Construct and eventually providing over 2 Million Meals a Day; they further state that the Operation is now underway with Forces currently preparing to Deploy, but that it will not require “Boots on the Ground” in the Gaza Strip with U.S. Ground Troops only involved in Anchoring the Pier.
