Almost exactly a year since breaking down at the start of the Westlant 22 deployment,

HMS PWLS will sail from Portsmouth tomorrow to resume the programme Westlant23.
Passing Round tower approx 1330.

Once F-35 flying is completed, HMSPWLS will conduct trials landing a General Atomics Mojave RPAS which can carry a 1,500lb ISR payload or weapons.

Finally flying trials with USMC MV-22 Ospreys will be used to test its operating limits from the ship.

This will enable greater capacity for joint operations in the future culminating in HMS PWLS global deployment in 2025.

British carrier deploys for trials with combat drones

HMS Prince of Wales will “make history” with both combat and re-supply drones flying from her deck.
Britain’s biggest warship today sailed for her autumn deployment today – her longest yet, pushing the limits of aircraft carrier operations with drones, fifth-generation stealth fighters, tilt-rotors and helicopters. She’s heading to the east coast of the United States.

By the time she returns home shortly before Christmas, the Royal Navy say that they expect that the ship will have:
