Re: Merchant Marine - Old Photographs
Nice to see a photo of the tug HENDON. She spent most of her time on the River Wear at Sunderland and was owned by France Fenwick from being built in 1924. Hendon is a district of Sunderland and the tug was a regular at launches from the many shipyards on the River Wear. She was chartered to Tyne Tugs in 1959.Brian James wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 6:39 am Tyne Tugs Ltd Harbour tug Hendon pictured at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, she was sold in 1996 to Karapiperis Co at Piraeus and re-named 'Stavros Karapiperis'......Tyne Tugs Beamish is in the background, she was sold to a Great Lakes Canadian Co in the 70s and re-named 'Thunder Cape'.

The funnel markings show her as a France, Fenwick Tyne & Wear Co Ltd tugboat. She was chartered to Tyne Tugs in 1959 and the funnel probably changed to red with black boot topping.Brian James wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 2:17 am Tyne Tugs Ltd, Harbour Tug Robert Redhead pictured at Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
