First members of ship’s company join HMS Venturer

Good progress has been made on constructing the first Type 31 frigate, HMS Venturer at Rosyth. The first 9 sailors of the ship’s company have joined the ship and will standby her in build, developing the standard operating procedures and routines for the new class of ship.

Babcock Plc says first Type 31 frigate HMS Venturer's construction is on track and she will be structurally complete by December.

Nine Royal Navy sailors got the chance to view HMS Venturer being constructed at Rosyth Dockyard in Scotland.

They will help write the operators manual, ready for when the warship enters service.

Take a bow, HMS Venturer as new frigate takes shape in Rosyth

Gleaming in its red paint and complete, this is the bright, bulbous bow of HMS Venturer, the first of the Royal Navy’s new Type 31 frigates.
Under 18 months since her keel was laid, Venturer is beginning to resemble a warship as the giant units and blocks which make up the vessel are slotted into place with pinpoint accuracy by Babcock at their Rosyth site.

The bulbous bow (not quite as bulbous as, say, the RN’s aircraft carriers but still distinctive) is a marvel of marine engineering which modifies the way water flows around the hull, reducing friction as the frigate cuts through the oceans, reducing fuel usage and helping to extend the range, while also supporting the vessel’s stability.
