XV Patrick Blacket has been in alongside in Portsmouth since commissioning in July to allow transfer of a commercially certificated platform onto the Defence Shipping Register. The work is complex but she should be ready to go to sea by the end of the year.

The RN has ordered further PODS (Modular capabilities carried in shipping containers) at least two of which will initially be tested on the cargo deck of XV Patrick Blackett.

A prototype quantum sensor for future navigation – developed by Imperial College London – has been tested onboard the UK RN's research ship XV Patrick Blackett.

The quantum sensor has the potential to offer highly accurate location data in GPS and GNSS-free environments.

P.S. The prototype quantum sensor has been built by researchers from Imperial Physics, and has a potential application in GPS-free navigation.
GPS navigation isn't always accessible, and issues such as obstacles, jamming or imitation can prevent accurate navigation.
