HMS Daedalus: The old Royal Navy base established in World War One now developed into housing


Developers completed the first phase of 200 news homes in 2021

An old Royal Navy base that was established in the First World War is being developed into new homes.

Thousands of military personnel have walked through the grounds of HMS Daedalus, which was used for 79 years.

Now, hundreds more will call it their home as the Lee-on-Solent base is turned into a modern housing estate.

Gosport: Homes to be built on HMS Daedalus site

A former military base is set to be transformed into a waterfront development.

Up to 262 homes will be built on the site of HMS Daedalus, in Hampshire, under new plans approved by Gosport Borough Council.

A museum, public open spaces and 48 retirement apartments will also be constructed over the next decade.

The Royal Navy Air Station at Lee-on-the-Solent was first used during World War One and closed in 1996.
