Half of Russia's Black Sea fleet combat jets out of use after Crimea blasts, official says

The large explosions that rocked a Russian air base in Crimea earlier this month have put more than half of Russia's Black Sea Fleet naval aviation combat jets out of use, a western intelligence official said on Friday.

Russia seized the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014 and has used it as a staging ground for attacks on the country since the war began in February.

Ukrainian authorities have vowed to recapture Crimea and other occupied territories.

"They've lost their flagship Moskva, they lost Snake Island, they lost half of their naval aviation package and their military headquarters was struck," the official said about Russia.
They added the "credibility" of Russia's Black Sea Fleet had been "diminished" as a result of the attack.

On recent explosions in Russia, Crimea, and Russian-occupied territory, the official said: "I think we can assume attacks by Ukrainians behind enemy lines."

With key European countries (GE, FR) still reluctant to open valves with real arms supply to Ukraine the US, UK and former WP , "rusophobian" countries are main source of the military aid.
It is amazing and sort of "a fourth dimension" of how the USofA can provide billions of military aid to Ukraine as well as follow their favorite policy of wasting billions of worth equipment left behind or destroyed at spot when a conflict is (as they think - i.e.Afghanistan) over.
Just has been revealed that 7 billion $ worth US military stuff was left to the Talibans .
I have no doubt it is an exaggeration figure for many/most/majority has been no longer operational , junk and scrap....but anyway it is impressive.

In this above mentioned broad context it is worth to see the navsource page contains list of the USN ships, vessels, crafts built (also purchased from the UK) by the Americans in WW2 . It is hard to understand how one country industry was so strong to provide thousands of the a/m ships to their and its Allies armed forces in addition to Liberty merchants, other iron hardware and last but not least 1500 railroad engines delivered to the Soviets.

***BREAKING***

Developing situation, pending updates and clarity

Attack on Russian Navy headquarters today appears to have been carried out by a weaponized commercially acquired drone. Similar attacks have been made in high-value targets in Russia previously.

Dogfight Over Ukraine Shows The Air War Is Still Very Much Being Fought

Seeing fighter jets do battle at close quarters is a rare sight in modern warfare but yesterday folks in war-torn Ukraine saw such a spectacle.

Civilian onlookers out in the street, staring up as a dogfight unfolds above them, the blue skies cross-hatched by trails of smoke. It might sound like a scene from the Battle of Britain, but this is Ukraine, where the air war is today still raging.

In a video published yesterday on social media by Matthew Luxmoore, The Wall Street Journal’s reporter in Ukraine, we can see dramatic footage purportedly from one such aerial engagement, including the very rare sight of a modern fighter jet firing air-to-air missiles in a genuine combat situation.

ATLANTIC RESOLVE

From Wiki: Operation Atlantic Resolve, though not a "named" operation, refers to military activities in response to Russian operations in Ukraine; mainly the War in Donbass. It was funded under the European Deterrence Initiative. In the wake of Russia's 2014 intervention in Ukraine, the U.S. and the U.K. took several immediate steps to enhance the deterrence posture along the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), including augmenting the air, ground and naval presence in the region, and enhancing previously scheduled exercises. The US described the activities as taking measures to enhance NATO military plans and defense capabilities and maintaining a persistent presence in Central Europe and Eastern Europe. Atlantic Resolve rotations are overseen by a regionally aligned headquarters there.
