Back in those days the French built some, uhh, unusual looking warships! Most of their BBs of the time were only 1 or 2 units per class.

The lower one resembles a Monitor to me Dennis , top one looks like its from our supplier

The JEMMAPES was a "coast defense" battleship. Here's another BIG "hotel"!! DFO

Blimey Dennis where did you dig these up from , I thought at first that the bottom one had been grafted onto a Monitor .
I am constantly amazed at the design change [ no reflection on you ] which just goes to show what a sheltered view I held , so again my thanks mate

Central Battery Ironclad Battleship Redoutable pictured at Algiers in 1893.She was the first warship in the world to use steel as the principal building material,France was the first country to manufacture steel in large quantities using the Siemens process. At that time, steel plates still had some defects, and the outer bottom plating of the ship was made of wrought iron.
