China Lake is actually a Navy base in the middle of the Mojave desert in California!! I served there, TAD, for several months in 1966; one of a handful of Marines on a Navy base with no water for several hundred miles!!

Here is a view of the MISSOURI in August, 1988. WOW...would I have loved to have been on her, even though she's not the WISCONSIN!!
The largest naval rifles I ever heard fire were 6" 47s (all 3) on a CLG inside Da Nang Bay. They got one's attention even from atop Monkey Mountain. DFO

The moth balled WISCONSIN, IOWA and carrier SHANGRI-LA at Philly, 1978. Also, a nice high bow on view of WISCONSIN...... DFO

With the Missouri here in Hawaii, I was glad to have built a model of the wartime Missouri "back a few years" -- eyeballs getting too old for modeling anymore, I think...
