you can see how impressive these huge ships must have been to visitors back then, they really were a mountain of metal when viewed from the deck. Speaking of decks, I note that this one is still holystoned white, in the TTL journal of Valiant for 1940 the first thing they had to do while at Scapa was to paint the teak decks dark as they found when using their own aircraft that the white teak stood out like a target for miles against the dark of the sea.
