"Finally achieved a long held ambition to visit the HMS Collingwood Heritage Collection of Radio, Radar and other equipment. You will note my picture of a B40 next to a B41 (as well as these two they actually have the prototype royal blue B40) well these two tell a tale. In my passing out class in 1969 there was just one place for a Golly and I wanted it (for all the obvious reasons - pay and promotion being key) and so did another lad, Tug Wilson. Well old bunts here screwed up the frequency ranges of these two beasts so got 98% and Tug didn’t so won the W badge. He lasted three years before buying himself out, I managed 27 and ended up with my buttons and the pension that nicely sees me reasonably settled these days.

Oh and Gosport Heritage Open Days, a brilliant idea, happens every year in the week the kids go back to school and there are two, bookable tours lead by Clve Kidd the Honourary Curator of the collection, who does a brilliant tour/talk, each year. Recommended"

There was another in this range Dave ...... I believe it was the B62 [don't quote me] which was in a B40 series cabinet but only contained the Commercial Broadcasting Stations Bands and was fitted in SRE Cabinets . I had one on the Chevron in 56.

Yank portable model, didn't have any rotors in the drum though.

Yep your are correct ye olde Ch. Tel.

We had them on the Battle Class in the SRE compartment .... and they were not always operated by a sparker as I recall.

Thanks Harry ...... The memory cells are not all dead after all . You are right , anyone could be the SRE Operator if they so wanted the job .

Enigma Codebreaker Buried In US With UK Military Honours
A 92-year-old woman who helped break the Enigma code during the Second World War has been buried in the US with UK military honours.
Jean Briggs Watters, who died on 15 September, had kept her role in the decoding of the Enigma code a secret for decades.
Ms Watters' coffin was draped with the Union Jack flag during her funeral on Monday.
She was among the around 10,000 people, mostly women, who took part in the Allied effort to crack German communication codes throughout the war.
Ms Watters operated an electro-mechanical machine, known as a 'Bombe', to decrypt signals the German armed forces sent out from their Enigma encryption machines.
The decoding was carried out at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, which played a pivotal role in ending the War - however, the programme was kept classified until the 1970s.

Just posting the attached out of interest and curiosity.
I've never seen such a large AE array on a sub?
Assume the main mast is telescopic and perhaps mechanical in those days and the fore and aft ones fold down?
