On Ark Royal (R09), in the 1960s, 5K1 was one of the communicators messdecks. My pal was a Radio Electrical Mechanic but was billeted in that mess for a while. 6J2 may also have been a communicators mess.
RO1 (Radio Operator 1st Class) was equivalent to an Able Seaman rate.
