Aircraft Carriers: Kuznetsov

Unread post by designeraccd »

The overhaul of Russia's sole carrier, up in the far north, is proceeding. Several pictures have emerged showing her new turbo boilers sitting on the flight deck. Previously there were some of her old, trouble prone (hence she was always attending by a huge tug on deployments) boilers sitting on the fd before being scrapped? Shots taken of her SMOKING thru the English Channel were well publicized in the West...

The supposed lack of funds seems to preclude the construction of any new carriers. DFO

The Chief Stoker must have had an excemption certificate for the black smoke :D .
I was always told that black smoke was due to incorrect air mixtures in the boilers.

I thought I had a pic showing one of her boiler rooms and another showing the VIKRAMADITYAs. The contrast was striking: the Indian carrier was spic and span; KUZNETSOVs looked like it was from a WW1 era coal fired ship...with no cleaning gear. Might have a bearing on the amount of smoke, too?? DFO

Found them: + LIAOLING, too......guess who is who.....

Thanks very much Harry , brilliant video , not even my Tug could have done better in those heavy seas , are they still there or did the weather change for the better ;)

Shots like these show what good seaman can do and just how hard they work [ says he sat at his keyboard  ]

Apparently the KUZNETSOV's refit in the huge "floating" dry dock has taken a TURN for the worse: reports are that the drydock (VALIANT anyone) has sunk under her!!! :o OOPZEEEE! Note starboard crane from the drydock collapsed on her aft flightdeck, and bow down attitude of the carrier. Russian reports claim the carrier is NOT damaged, except where the toppled crane punched a hole in the flight deck.
