River Class Frigates: La Confiance

Unread post by Brian James »

River Class Frigate La Confiance pictured at Cockatoo Island Dockyard in December 1959 for hull cleaning and painting along with a general maintenance refit. This was her third visit to Cockatoo Island.
Built at Smith's Dock Co Ltd Shipyard at South Tees, Middlesborough as Frigate HMS Moyola (K260) she was commissioned in January 1943 serving in Atlantic convoy duties. Less than two years later she was decommissioned and given to the Free French Navy in October 1944 and renamed Tonkinois. In 1953 the French Navy renamed her La Confiance and for several years was based based in the South Pacific with the French Territories. She was broken up in 1961.
