2021 CENSUS

Armed Forces Veterans. Did you know next year the 2021 census will for the first time ask you to ID if you have served? Under the armed forces covenant the government are committed to improving support to veterans. They would like to ensure awareness and participation in the census is as high as possible in order to reach out to the hundreds of thousands of our band of brothers and sisters.

Some private comments:
For Census 2021, the recommended question on armed forces community (veterans) is:
Have you previously served in the UK Armed Forces?
Current serving members should only tick ‘No’
[ ] Yes, previously served in Regular Armed Forces
[ ] Yes, previously served in Reserve Armed Forces
Or [ ] No
The only downside of the 2021 census is that it won't be accessable until 2122
It will enable local authorities to be aware of where veterans live and contribute to them receiving the services they are entitled to and enshrined in the Armed Forces Covenant
According to the "72-Year Rule," the National Archives releases census records to the general public 72 years after Census Day.

Perhaps the best place to ask the question would be the Register of Electors. The information would be available straight away.
