Why INS Kavaratti, The ‘Stealth’ Anti-Submarine Corvette Will Be A ‘Thorn In The Flesh’ For Chinese Submarines?

INS Kavaratti is part of Kamorta-class corvettes or Project 28, a class of anti-submarine warfare corvettes currently in service with the Indian Navy, which was approved in 2008.
As China continues to increase its influence in the Indian Ocean, India is also adding more muscle power to its anti-submarine warfare with the last of four indigenously-built Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stealth corvette – INS Kavaratti.

How Has China Reacted To QUAD As India, US, Japan, Australia Inch Towards Asian NATO?

Indian Army Chief MM Narvane commissioned indigenously-built Kavaratti into the Indian Navy as a combat-ready platform at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

After Rafale Jets, India Quietly Working With France To Acquire Stealth Submarines In A Multi-Billion Dollar Deall

The bilateral ties between India and France have seen a major boost in recent years. Following the landmark Rafale deal, New Delhi is now set to acquire new submarines from the French shipbuilder Naval Group.

Citing a source, a Nikkei Asia report said that the French shipbuilder will make an offer in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative for a proposal to make P75I class submarines for the Indian Navy.

Reportedly, a meeting was held in September between the French Defense Minister Florence Parly and her Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh where the Indo-French defense cooperation was discussed. “One of these is the P75I submarines tender,” said the source cited in the report.

According to Harsh V Pant, chief of the Strategic Studies Programme, Observer Research Foundation talking to Nikkei Asia, the deal is expected to be worth a whopping 420 billion rupees ($5.6 billion).

The report added that the tender seeks to build six stealth submarines with air-independent propulsion technology that would have a longer submerged range than subs already possessed by the Indian Navy.

As reported earlier by EurAsian Times, New Delhi has already picked Larsen & Toubro and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders as two Indian firms. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) invited RFP (request for proposal) from five foreign manufacturers including ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (Germany), Rubin Design Bureau (Russia), Navantia (Spain), Naval Group (France), and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (South Korea).

P-75I will become the first project to be launched under the Strategic Partnership (SP) policy initiated by the current government in May 2017 to give a boost to ‘Make in India’. The submarine project or other SP projects won’t be affected by the MoD import arms embargo.

Reportedly, the MoD requested information and data regarding the following capabilities of the proposed design of the submarine:

Trouble For Chinese Navy In Indian Ocean: India Gets Its Ninth Submarine Killer Aircraft; Three More To Be Delivered Next Year

The Indian Navy today received its ninth P8-I long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft from Boeing.

The aircraft, first of the second batch of four P8-I bought by India, arrived in Goa from Seattle in the US after stops at Hawaii, Guam and Brunei.

Eight of these aircraft, which were ordered in the first batch, have already been delivered and are in service with the Indian Navy.

The Indian Navy is the largest foreign customer of the P8 platform. While eight have already been indicted into service, four (one arrived today) are on order and six more are being procured. The Navy, reports say, plans to have a total of 22 of these aircraft in the next few years to keep an eye on Chinese movements in the Indian Ocean Region, most importantly its submarines.

This video by Boeing explains how the Indian Navy P8s track submarines.

What is the difference between Frigate and Destroyer ? + Other Indian Navy articles.

For the modern human navy, determining the type of ship is a technical task. For example, we all know how to define a frigate and a destroyer, what is the difference between them? For many people, this question is unclear.

Today we will look at this problem

First, let us look at the definition of frigate and destroyer. As the name implies, the frigate must be used for escort, and the destroyer is used for expulsion. This concept first appeared before the First World War. At that time, the British and German navies were the most powerful of the European navies. In the era of hardships and guns, the main type of warship was battleship, not the current aircraft carrier.
