German vessels to assist with Royal Navy training

The Royal Navy and the German Navy are set to intensify their longstanding training partnership, focusing on mutual preparation for global front-line naval operations.
This collaboration was reaffirmed with a new memorandum of understanding signed by Rear Admiral Axel Schulz, Commander of the German Navy’s 2nd Flotilla, and Commodore Andrew Ingham, Commander of the Fleet Operational Sea Training (FOST).

Under the terms of the agreement, the German Navy will utilise the Royal Navy’s world-renowned FOST—a training effort based at Devonport Naval Base—to prepare its warships for operational readiness.

NATO sweeps for mines in Baltic Sea during ‘Open Spirit 2024’
NATO naval forces, led by the Estonian Navy, have successfully carried out Operation Open Spirit 24, a minesweeping exercise designed to clear explosive remnants of war in the Baltic Sea.

NATO ships recently participated in the French Navy-led multinational mine warfare exercise, Olives Noires 24, which took place from April 8 to April 19 in the area south of Toulon and Sète, France.

Naval ships call into Lerwick

A flotilla of naval ships which have been operating for NATO have arrived in Shetland for some “rest and recuperation” for their crews.

The ships, four from the Royal Netherlands Navy and one registered under the Belgium flag, arrived on Friday morning. They are expected to remain over the weekend.
