In pictures: The glorious life of Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Hermes

The world's oldest aircraft carrier, HMS Hermes, served through six decades in two different navies.
Hermes was the flagship of the British Royal Navy forces during the 1982 Falklands War and was in service from 1959 until 1984.
She started a new life in India as a maritime museum, south of Mumbai after serving in the Indian Navy and was decommissioned in 2017.

HMS Iwo Jima? OTD in 1982, Argentina invaded the Falklands.
Revealed years later, Reagan had secretly prepared to give Thatcher the USS Iwo Jima if the Royal Navy needed it.
The crew would have included U.S. "contract advisors" to operate the systems.

Debunking Argentine Conspiracy Theories

Here are The two British aircraft Carriers HMS Invincible & HMS Hermes and The ACL, Invincible had a Complement of eight Sea Harriers, the Invincible's air group included twelve Sea King helicopters, HMS Hermes Complement of aircraft was 12 Sea Harrier FRS1 attack aircraft of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, and 18 Sea King helicopters. and The ACL Carried six Wessex helicopters from 848 Naval Air Squadron and five RAF Chinook HC.1s from No. 18 Squadron RAF. Total Harrier GR3s shot down: 12
Total Harrier GR3s out of service: 5
Total helicopters shot down: 46
Total helicopters out of service: 62
Total aircraft lost / Damaged 154, Go figure
