T Class Submarine HMS Turpin pictured under refit on the State Government Slipway,Victoria Quay,Fremantle in March 1946.She was laid down at Chatham Dockyard on May 24th 1943, she was launched on August 5th 1944 and completed on December 18th 1944.She was a Group 3 T-Class Submarine, of all-welded construction.
At the end of the war, all surviving Group 1 and Group 2 Boats were scrapped, but the group 3 boats (which were of welded rather than riveted construction) were retained and fitted with snort masts. In 1955, Turpin was inside the arctic circle on an ELINT mission, listening for specific frequency bands of Soviet radars. Suddenly, the ELINT specialist noted an unusual signal that was from a very short range radar. The operator registered that they were about to be rammed by a Soviet Navy surface vessel, and a crash dive was ordered. She submerged below a cold water thermocline which allowed them to evade Soviet sonar and escape. She was sold to the Israeli Navy in 1965, and renamed Leviathan.

HMS Thunderbolt

The crew of HMS Thunderbolt (formerly HMS Thetis (N25)) and their 'Jolly Roger' flag, after a patrol in the Mediterranean in March 1942. The submarine was lost a year later, with all hands.

Note: HMS Thunderbolt (N25) was a T-class submarine originally called HMS Thetis. Thetis sank during sea trials on 1 June 1939 with 4 survivors out of 103 people on board. The boat was raised, repaired, and commissioned in 1940 as HMS Thunderbolt and sunk on 14 March 1943 by the Italian corvette Cicogna.

See video in previous post above.

Photos show the recently discovered wreck of a World War II-era submarine more than 80 years after a German sub sank it

Researchers discovered the wreck of a World War II-era submarine off the coast of Norway this year.
The HMS Thistle was a British sub that sank after being hit by a German vessel in 1940.
Researchers initially thought the wreck could be that of the HMS Oxley instead.
