Fairmile and ML Patrol Craft

Lt H.J Bull DSC RNZNVR and an unidentified officer of Patrol Vessel Fairmile ML403. Lt Bull commanded ML 403 from 1942 - 45 he was awarded the DSC for actions following the fall of Singapore and his role in the evacuation of personnel to Java......Lest We Forget.

Commodore Keith Dowding pictured inspecting crews of the RNZN 81st Fairmile Flotilla prior to their departure for duty in the Solomon Islands. The Rolls Royce Anti-Aircraft guns were removed in anticipation of the US Navy fitting a replacement in Noumea, New Caledonia...Devonport Naval Base,Auckland.

80th and 81st Fairmile Flotillas docked in Calliope Basin, Devonport Naval Base Auckland prior to their departure to the Solomon Islands. Twelve RNZN Fairmile patrol vessels and their crew were requested by Admiral Halsey - Commander of Allied Naval Forces in the South Pacific for Anti Submarine patrols around Tulagi, Russell Islands and Guadalcanal.
