The Crows Nest Camera

Unread post by timlewin »

Dear All,
the long promised camera most of the way up the foremast is now in place and working on the IWM internal circuits; we are now optimising the sweep and angles for the camera but having seen some of the screen-shots from the techies laptop, they are excellent; when there is a ship alongside they will be even better. Being out on the navigation radar platform some distance from the centre line of the ship the capture a super view from the Jackstaff to the Ensignstaff. Watch this space and I will tell you when its ready online and provide to all of you a link so you can all check in on the ship daily, its live, it rotates, its all in HD colour.

I had wanted to hold a launching party but with the explosion of the virus dangers regret this will now have to be virtual, effective but no fun, a fortune awaits the first man to pass round a virtual bottle of decent wine over the internet, 3D printing can make the cup, but its rubbish with liquid!

just heard, the entire IWM including HMSB is closing down until further notice from tonight in deference to guidance rom Public Health England. Not unexpected, and I hope will not delay too much the connection of the camera to the World. "If you cannot visit the ship, we can bring the ship to you"....

been a fairly up hill road to get this done, and we ain't there yet!

when the camera was installed and being tested the project manager from Banhams (The security specialists) who provided the camera etc. took these screenshots from his computer, they have been transferred from PDF to JPG so lost some quality in this, down from 29MB to 700KB, the real feed, when we get it from IWM is HD crystal clear, we can adjust the angles remotely so if anything special we are able to take advantage.

I am hoping the virus will actually help as with the ship closed "If you cannot visit the ship, we can bring the ship to you" might help, it all works, its up to the IWM to decide on activating the live feed....which I hope will be very soon.
