Many thanks to Jim Rae for posting a link to the BBC Radio Naval Drama of the book (click on the link below). Some of you may remember the 1953 film, one of my all time favourites- the storyline:
With the look and feel of a documentary, this riveting British WW II-set drama centers on the exploits of the Lt. Commander of a corvette, a small but speedy British Royal Navy warship. He is a man consumed with guilt after his ship, the Compass Rose is torpedoed by a U-boat, causing the deaths of many crewmen. Later he is on his new ship when he finds himself faced with a life and death situation upon the ruthless ocean. The plot is based on a novel by Nicholas Monsarrat.

The Cruel Sea & HMS Camperdown (D32) (old ships)
In 1953, at Plymouth, Camperdown was accidentally rammed by Coreopsis, a Flower-class corvette (renamed Compass Rose for her role in the film The Cruel Sea), causing damage.

I'd hardly call a Flower class ship "speedy"!jbryce1437 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 10:30 pm

"Manouvreble" woud fit much better !
While The Cruel Sea is the novel based on real experiences of the author the Three Corvettes by Monsarrat are also not bad - I would rather lean to the latter.

GD
