HMY Britannia

Unread post by jbryce1437 »

The Royal Yacht Britannia was built by the John Brown shipyard on the River Clyde and was commissioned in 1954.
Her maiden voyage was to Malta and her final foreign mission was to bring back The Prince of Wales and the Governor of Hong Kong, after the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997. She steamed over 1,000,000 miles during her service.

She is now retired from royal service, part of the Historic Fleet, and open to visitors and is permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal, Leith, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
You can find out more about her and how to plan a visit on her website here.

Former ‘Yotties’ unite for annual working party on Royal Yacht Britannia

Former sailors who served on the Royal Yacht Britannia have described themselves as a “band of brothers” as they arrived on the ship for their annual working party as a way to keep the bonds they built in service alive.

Paid a visit to HMY Britannia at Leith on a stopover when heading north to Aviemore on 25th June 2023. Here are some of the photos that I took onboard, unfortunately, some were through perspex viewing windows so there is some reflection on some of them but worth the view.
