Here is link to the Salute to the RCN we organised onboard HMS Belfast in December, just before Christmas. This was the third time we have done this and each time it gets a little better. There are some photos on the HMS Belfast thread but I thought it ought to get a mention here as well. The RCN played a pivotal role in protecting the Atlantic and Arctic convoys, without their corvettes we would not have had sufficient cover to protect our lifelines to North America. When the war began Canada and the RCN was there from day one. At that time the RCN was tiny, by the end of the War they had grown to be the third largest Navy in the World, their casualties in men from their extremely active service actually amounted to more than the entire muster role of the RCN when war began. We do this in HMS Belfast partly because she is the most appropriate ship left and partly to recognise the 80+ Canadians who were serving as part of her complement when she engaged in the Battle of North Cape. At that time there were also a further 750+ men defending the convoy in 3 Tribal Class destroyers of the RCN teamed with Ashanti and Eskimo from the RN in case the Scharnhorst's destroyer escort broke through (in the event they were sent home after running low on fuel and being unable to maintain station with Scharnhorst due to the appalling weather conditions).
The event was joined by the High Commissioner of Canada and a wide range of Allied Naval Attaches from different embassies in London.
Doing our bit!

Re: Salute to the RCN
HMCS Kingston % Summerside are due to visit Londonderry this weekend to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the end of the Battle of the Atlantic, a great effort by the RCN, these are small ships, much the same size as the flower Corvettes that the RCN and RN used to such splendid effect in the Battle. Hope to have some pictures soon.

Many thanks for the photos Tim and, yes, great to see it as an annual event.
