Many thanks for that, we are looking forward to a cruise in the Antarctic, if the Covid ever goes away.
I would sooner give the RN the $10k for a cruise on the RRS_DA.

Maybe worth keeping an eye on - https://twitter.com/BAS_News - LB as RRS Sir D.A. does not seem to be on Twitter.
Our own HMS Protector is en-route southwards and is on Twitter - https://twitter.com/hmsprotector
Hope this helps.

RRS Sir David Attenborough arrives in Antarctica for the first time
17 December, 2021

Britain’s new polar research vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, has travelled to Antarctica on its maiden voyage, with its first call today (17 December) at Rothera Research Station – the UK’s largest Antarctic research station on the continent.

The RRS Sir David Attenborough departed the UK in November, arriving in the Falkland Islands three-and-a-half weeks later. From there, the ship continued its voyage, officially entering Antarctica on 13 December. The ship has now arrived at British Antarctic Survey’s largest research facility, transporting station personnel, food, fuel and cargo.

Hybrid Cruise Ship Le Commandant Charcot Assists RRS Sir David Attenborough in Antarctic Ice

Britain’s new polar expedition ship, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, encountered particularly difficult sea ice conditions during a resupply mission as part of the research ship’s first polar expedition. It was assisted in its attempt to deliver the supplies to support the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration, by a new and distinctive expedition cruise ship, Le Commandant Charcot, operated by the French cruise company Compagnie du Ponant.

RRS Sir David Attenborough is capable of breaking through 1-meter thick ice at a speed of three knots. It is a Polar Class 5 vessel, classed as “ice-capable” but not an icebreaker. Le Commandant Charcot is an LNG-fueled electric hybrid icebreaker cruise ship; the first PC2 Polar Class cruise ship with the ability to break through ice up to 2.5-meter thick at a speed of three knots.

In Pictures: Inside the floating polar research laboratory

The vessel the public once hoped to name Boaty McBoatface is poised to return to Antarctica after making its first voyage to the continent a year ago. What is it like for those who call the RRS Sir David Attenborough "home"?
The £200m RRS Sir David Attenborough is described as a floating polar research laboratory.
In the coming years, the Cambridge-based British Antarctic Survey (BAS) believe the Polar Ice Class 5 ship will enable world-leading research in Antarctica.
Currently harboured at its UK home port of Harwich, Essex, it will depart on Sunday for Antarctica.
The first leg of the journey will be a three-week voyage to the Falkland Islands where further supplies will be collected before it heads south to the various BAS research stations.
The research being carried out will include testing trace metal systems, and deploying and recovering instruments in deep and polar waters.
