Although not an RN Battle this photo on Flickr of an RAN Battle HMAS Tobruk (D37) shows the class with the new design Mark VI Twin 4.5 gun turret in both 'A' and 'B' gun deck positions.
Note that the single Bofors gun mounting has retained it's position behind the 'B' 4.5 twin gun - all same-same the RN 1942 (early) Battles.

4082. This is a wonderful photograph of HMAS TOBRUK in her prime, but we're not sure where it is taken. It may be in the Hunter River or off King's Wharf Newcastle, as we had earlier pics of her there

I have been wondering; how does one test the veracity of the image? thus establishing that it depicts Solebay R70/D70 sans Pennant Number? Have I missed some other distinguishing features, other than her being in the capacity as a 'leader' - anybody able to help in that regard?

The associated text relating to the image in Media Storehouse doesn't provide any clues as far as I can see.

A very fine picture of an equally fine ship; I suspect this was just after the end of the TTL commission, he left in 1957 to join the HMYB. Until that time Corunna was very much a Med Fleet destroyer, when HMYB went to Denmark on a State visit Corunna was an escorting ship so possibly this picture is from then? Cdr. G Place VC in command?

In 1952 SLUYS had her CSA (Chemical Smoke Apparatus) removed & a Squid mounting fitted, if I remember correctly the Squid was fitted carefully shrouded, for secrecy ??

Whilst browsing t'internet recently I happened upon an image of Jutland (D62) on reddit, captioned thus:-
Battle-Class Destroyer HMS Jutland (D62) alongside Audacious-Class Carrier HMS Eagle R05. 1950's.[744 x 562]

Very obvious are the forecastle awning stanchions partially de-rigged and sloping aft. Never saw this rig style in use in the 1st DS, either in the Med or up the Gulf (1961) .... but alas Hon Mod Jim had already posted an image showing a similar rig style in use on 'Agincourt in company'.

For comparison; hybrid showing both Jutland and Agincourt

1. Do you mean open whilst underway Ivor?

Late edit;
2. If you think that is folly Ivor - try this one for size:- port side RAS underway; and what appear to be wind scoops (x 3) still in place (swivelled downwards), projecting out of scuttles .... just begging for some oggin to wash up into the compartment inside :oops:

Later edit; (this time not a 'Battle' but a 'Daring')
3. ... and just as bad yet another port side RAS underway; and again what appears to be wind scoops (this time x 4) still in place (swivelled fwd), projecting out of scuttles.

I would have thought for NBCD State 3 Condition Y (RAS state and leaving harbour state) all scuttles would be closed and deadlights down.
This another pic of a Battle with the stanchions partly rigged - HMS Barrosa
