My favorite from the WW I era German fleet remains the Iron Dog -- Derfflinger, seen here at Hamburg in 1914. Did some devastating shooting at Jutland.

She was a powerful beauty........DERFFLINGER. The weakest spot seemed to be the large forward torpedo flat; certainly was instrumental in the loss of the LUTZOW thru massive flooding. :( DFO

Its when you see this type of destructive power and what effect it has on the armoured steel ships structure that you can visualise the terror of being the "Target" , and wonder how a ship takes this degree of punishment and yet still float's :!:

Couple that with the modern day "Improvement's" and there intensity , its a wonder anyone goes to Sea .

Don't get me wrong Dennis , I'm as patriotic as the next guy , but the only thing you have in your favour is the possibility of you being at the other end of the ship when hit , still in the days of sail it was just as bad with a broadside load hitting your wooden ship and being cut in half with wooden splinters , either way your just canon fodder . :? :?

SEYDLITZ was a semi-submerged wreck after Jutland, but as proof of her excellent design, she did manage to crawl back to Germany for many, much needed repairs!! Of course, she was repaired and joined the HSF surrender in 1918. :( DFO
